The Position
As the Assistant Principal, you will report to a Principal while working closely with other APs and members of the school’s Central Office. In this role, you will manage a team of teachers, and staff to ensure scholars achieve high academic achievement and growth while building and sustaining our school’s diverse community.
The Qualifications
The ideal AP candidate possesses:
- Multiple years of teaching experience with a track record of high academic achievement and growth, as measured by state or norm referenced assessments.
- 1 or more years of experience as either an instructional or teacher leader – which can include AP, Dean, Department Head, Grade Level Team Leader, etc – with a track record of results in their role.
Job Duties
- Team Leadership:
- Serve as a leader and manager of 8-15 general education and scholar support teachers by leading publicly and privately with staff, scholars, and families.
- Scholar Culture:
- Support a vision for scholar culture by executing and monitoring key classroom and school procedures, including but not limited to hallways, lunch & recess, restrooms, arrival, morning motivation, closing circle/study hall, end of day, attention getters, and habits of attention.
- Support a system for behavior interventions, attendance interventions, scholar incentives, and family events in grades by communicating across key stakeholders – including Principals AP, Teachers, scholars, and families.
- Lead practice clinics with teachers and provide observation feedback so teachers effectively leverage the school’s vision and systems for scholar culture.
- Curriculum, Planning, and Professional Development
- Serve as the school-based content expert by sharing a vision, rolling out a vision in Professional Development, monitoring a vision through observation and feedback, and collecting and sharing feedback on curriculum.
- Support a system for academic interventions in through direct support or observation and feedback.
- Support systems related to academic operations (i.e. Testing Schedules, Report Cards, Conferences, etc.) by executing systems and providing input or feedback.
- Plan and/or lead pre-planned professional development for specific teams of teachers on Mondays or dedicated PD Days aligned to the organization’s development sequence or individual strengths and gaps.
- Coaching and Observation Feedback
- Observe a cohort of teachers and provide teachers with high leverage, bite-sized, and actionable support through modeling, practice, looking at student work, or data analysis.
- Partner with the school’s Network Team to support teacher intellectual preparation and data analysis, providing differentiated support as needed.
- Work with key stakeholders to manage employee support and improvement plans, as necessary.
- Lead effective planning and weekly data meetings by unpacking standards, preparing lessons, analyzing scholar work, and designing and facilitating effective practice.
- Staff Culture
- Serve as a model of our community’s commitments and have clear and kind conversations to hold all stakeholders, including oneself, accountable when they aren’t yet living out those commitments.
- Participate in regular staff meetings or huddles to update staff or share progress to prioritize
- Conduct evaluations aligned to Nashville Classical’s rubric and evaluation frameworks.
- Enforce and uphold the school’s employee policies
- Collect, analyze, and respond to staff survey data using weekly suggestion boxes, TNTP Insight, etc.
Job Requirements
- Own an arrival duty and dismissal duty
- Work a 7:17 - 4:30pm schedule 4 days per week and a 7:17 - 3:45pm schedule on Fridays - employees can leave prior tio 4:30pm if there are no meetings after school and work is complete.
- Work an 11 month calendar with approximately 40 days of Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Break and ~8 PTO days.
Compensation
The starting salary range for this position is between $95,000 and $120,000 and will be commensurate with an employee’s experience. Employees will be eligible for annual raises and a PTO Cashout at the end of the school year.
The AP should plan to start on July 6, 2026.
